Signpost International
#GlobalCitizenshipScot
Inspired by the Christian faith, Signpost International walks alongside disadvantaged communities to see a world free from poverty.
Signpost International works with local schools to help pupils be outward thinking and actively engage in local and global community issues and teach them how to be global citizens. With this improved understanding, pupils and the wider public can push for change in global development issues and be a voice for those who are vulnerable and without opportunity.
The organisation believes that it is important to be a Global Citizen – someone who is aware of and understands the wider world and their place in it, caring for the planet in which we live, taking an active role in the community and speaking up for equality and sustainability.
For Signpost, their overseas school trips are focused on developing young people’s knowledge, skills and understanding to enable them to engage with the world.
An external evaluation by an Edinburgh University Masters Student in 2017 identified five key themes from discussions with students who had attended overseas trips. These were: new perspectives, appreciation and gratitude, influences on education and career, empathy and community and philanthropic engagement.

Spotlight on…
The Centre For Sustainable Learning
Signpost International is commited to combining Global Citizenship Education (GCE) with a more active, and youth-led programme challenging poverty and inequality in both Scotland and the Global South.
Signpost want The Centre for Sustainable Learning (CSL) to become the global citizenship educational hub for school and youth groups across Scotland. Based at their centre in Whitfield, Dundee, young people will have the opportunity to receive a specialised learning experience connecting both local and global issues of community development in a unique manner involving interactive displays, exhibits, virtual reality, and outdoor learning.
