This national network event for local authority personnel is being organised by Learning and Teaching Scotland in direct response to requests from local authorities. The purpose of the event is to help build capacity within local authorities to support the embedding of global citizenship and sustainable development within Curriculum for Excellence. Participants will have the opportunity to network with counterparts from across Scotland and share effective approaches, strategies and ideas for supporting schools. A particular focus of the day will be to explore opportunities for greater collaboration within and across authorities to maximise resources and impact. Those who are interested will also have the opportunity to attend an ‘Introduction to Curriculum for Excellence’ seminar.
Who should attend?
This event is aimed at local authority personnel with a remit related to sustainable development. Each local authority is encouraged to send up to five personnel. These may include:
· QIOs/coordinators with a responsibility for global citizenship or sustainable development education
· Those with an authority-wide responsibility for sustainability, biodiversity, carbon management, Eco-Schools, waste, energy, health promotion, active schools, recycling, outdoor learning, community learning and development and countryside ranger services.
Why attend?
Learning and Teaching Scotland sees a whole-school approach to sustainability and global citizenship as being a key objective in the delivery of Curriculum for Excellence and meeting the targets outlined in Learning for Change: Scotland’s second action plan for the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. Schools achieving success in this area have often done so through accessing a diverse range of support from within their local authority. This event will provide participants with an opportunity to learn, discuss and share practical strategies and ideas that can be employed within local authorities to help embed SDE and global citizenship within the curriculum and school life.
