IDEAS and schools

Around 30 IDEAS members work in the schools sector to support education for global citizenship. Members offer a range of services: CPD workshops (for teachers and school staff), loan and sale of classroom resources, school speakers, projects and research. These support services cover a range of themes and approaches, including:

  • Fair trade and trade justice
  • Human rights
  • Sustainable development
  • Participative learning
  • Peace Education
  • Race equality
  • Media awareness
  • School partnerships

IDEAS members also work with many of the Initial Teacher Education Institutions around Scotland to support teacher training with a global dimension.

As a network, we collaborate where possible and otherwise try to ensure that our work is mutually supportive and coherent. Members come together to produce Stride (our magazine for teachers), to pursue projects of mutual interest, to host and exhibit at events, and to work with organisations outside the network such as Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS), the Scottish Executive, the Department for International Development, and the Global Citizenship Unit at the University of Glasgow.

IDEAS is a member of the SDE Network, LTS' Sustainable Development Education Liaison Group, and the Partnership for International Education convened by the Scottish Executive.

Preparing for the new school curriculum

Scotland's teachers will receive an additional day's training over the next three years to help introduce the new school curriculum.
