IDEAS and community and youth groups
Around 20 IDEAS members work in local community settings delivering and supporting education for global citizenship. Members offer a range of services: projects and workshops with community groups, community led courses and initiatives, workshops for youth groups, training for community educators, youth workers, students and voluntary sector staff. Projects, workshops, courses and training cover a wide range of global citizenship themes including:
- Fair trade and trade justice
- Climate change and the environment
- Human rights
- Sustainable development
- Local community issues and global parallels
- Violence and peace
IDEAS members are also involved in linking projects between local communities in Scotland and local communities in Africa and South America.
As a network, members come together to share good practice and find new opportunities for collaborative and partnership working.
2007 is the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All and the theme for Youth Work Week (1-7 November) aims to support the 'All Different, All Equal' European Youth Campaign for Diversity, Human Rights and Participation.
A training day for Community Educators and Youth Workers entitled 'Action and Ideas' was held on 1 May 2007 at Glasgow University's Woolfson Medical Building. The day provided the opportunity for individuals to explore a range of global education resources and tools for use in community settings.
