Scottish Learning Festival

The Scottish Learning Festival, 19-20 September 2018 is the annual conference & exhibition for the teaching profession in Scotland. Co-located with the conference is The Scottish Learning Festival Exhibition. Together, they are now the pivotal events in the education calendar, inspiring better teaching and learning and helping to create a confident teaching profession for the 21st century.

It takes place at the SEC in Glasgow and attracts more than 4500 delegates over 2 days.

The keynote speakers at SLF this year are;

  • John Swinney MSP, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, 
  • Dr Jo Boaler, Professor of Mathematics Education, Stanford University,  
  • Louise Macdonald OBE, Chief Executive, Young Scot
  • Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science
  • Prof Louise Archer, Karl Mannheim Professor of Sociology of Education, University College London
  • Dr Jamie Gallagher, award-winning scientist and science communicator

The theme for SLF 2018 is Collaborating for Improvement with a particular focus on;

  • effective collaborations that ensure young people are having a greater say in decisions that affect their lives
  • strong STEM education and
  • training that inspires learners and connects with the labour market

Global Learning through Literacy and Numeracy session

For primary teachers. This session will provide you with practical ideas, classroom resources and methodologies to develop a global approach to literacy and numeracy in the primary classroom.

Thursday September 20th. 4pm - 6pm

Beyond the Bake Sale: charity fundraising or informed reflective action?

This session will reflect critically on charity fundraising and the ways young people engage with it, asking how we can support pupils to take informed reflection actions as global citizens.

The session will also consider ‘pupil voice’, what it looks like in our schools and how best to facilitate this process. Sharing good practice, resources and methodologies will be a key part of these sessions.
