Global citizenship at heart of international development strategy

The Scottish Government last month published its international development strategy, entitled Global Citizenship: Scotland’s International Development Strategy.

In his introduction, Dr Alasdair Allan MSP, Minister for International Development and Europe, says: "We share a duty - individually and collectively - to consider in our everyday decisions and behaviours the impact of our choices for sustainable development, in Scotland and on developing countries. Let us all, make good, fair and equitable choices for global good."

IDEAS welcomes the Scottish Government's recognition of the central importance of global citizenship in the current global political climate.

In a recent piece for Times Education Scotland, IDEAS co-ordinator Dr Tanya Wisely said:

"This is not about pity or charity. Everyone is needed to tackle inequality and all the other challenges we face.

"Things can sometimes look bleak, but the tools and enthusiasm are there to work with children and their communities – and make the world a better place."
