For Teachers

GLP-S offers teachers free Professional Learning in various aspects of developing Global Citizenship, Rights across the Curriculum and Learning for Sustainability.

It also offers:

  • Events where you can share practice and network with other teachers
  • Resources, classroom teaching materials and Stride, our on-line global citizenship magazine

What are the benefits?

  • Create lessons with stimulating, contemporary content that learners feel is relevant to their lives. Young people are naturally passionate about topics that connect to real life as it is happening now – a world challenged by conflict, inequality and environmental harm.
  • Learn how global citizenship is an integral part of Curriculum for Excellence, a key cross-cutting theme and fully embedded across the experiences and outcomes.
  • Address Learning for Sustainability, one of three key themes in the revised GTCS Standards and a Scottish Government entitlement for pupils.
  • Integrate Rights in your classroom teaching - GIRFEC, Recognising and Realising Children’s Rights.

What is required?

In line with developing models of good practice in Scotland, all Professional Learning requires teachers to undertake a three-stage process that includes built-in evaluation in the form of a short, user-friendly teacher questionnaire and school audit.

Stage 1

Initial training to build your skills and confidence in delivering specific aspect of global citizenship education. Baseline teacher questionnaire and school audit completed.

Stage 2

You carry out in-school delivery of global citizenship education. This may take the form of integrated planning, delivery of lessons or other classroom or whole school activities

Stage 3

Follow-up session to reflect on, review and learn from your own experience of delivering global citizenship education, draw on the experience of other teachers and consider next steps. Follow-up teacher questionnaire filled in. Follow-up school audit filled in during year following training.
